GAMMALAB
Department of nuclear medicine
The Department of Nuclear Medicine is the only one in the Trnava Self-Governing Region and provides services for the entire Trnava VÚC, partly also for the Trenčín Region, adjacent districts and for some clinics in Bratislava.
In order to provide healthcare at the European level, our nuclear medicine department in Trnava is serviced by a state-of-the-art scintigraphic double-headed SPECT gamma camera, a gamma probe for examination of the sentinel lymph node as well as a special hybrid SPECT/CT camera.
Scintigraphic examinations show pathological changes in organs at a time when they are not yet visible by other imaging methods. The development of these methodologies significantly improves the early diagnosis of a wide range of diseases (cancer, thyroid, heart, kidney, lung, bone, orthopaedic diseases, detection of haemorrhage, inflammatory foci, etc.), resulting in shorter treatment times and improved prognosis of diseases.
Only a specialist doctor can book a patient for scintigraphic examinations. Examinations at the patient’s own request may not be carried out by law, as the examination involves medical exposure, which must always be supported by an indication from a medical specialist.
